Private chat verification
Private chat uses a wallet signature only to verify that the connected Bitcoin address controls the chat identity.
It never asks for a signature just because you open Chat, search an address, select a contact, or read public chat content.
The flow
Section titled “The flow”Press Verify wallet. Your wallet shows a short-lived request for
chat:firebase-token.
Read the request before signing. It identifies:
- the address;
- a one-time nonce;
- an expiry time;
- a statement that it is for private-chat sign-in only.
This signature cannot authorize a payment or a Bitcoin transaction.
If it appears without you pressing the button
Section titled “If it appears without you pressing the button”Reject it.
A signature request you did not start is the single clearest signal that something else is driving your wallet. Do not sign messages you do not understand.
Never share a seed phrase, private key, wallet backup, or recovery code in Chat, or anywhere else. There is no support process that needs any of them.
