**For:** collectors comparing sets. **Goal:** read a collection without over-reading its numbers.
**Prerequisites:** none. **Chain and network:** Bitcoin mainnet. **Safety:** reading only.

## Where they are

[stampdex.fun/stamps/collections](https://stampdex.fun/stamps/collections) lists them.
A single collection is at `/stamps/collection/<id>`.
<ProductShot
  id="stamps-desktop-dark"
  alt="The Bitcoin Stamps collections page showing pixel-art collections in a grid, each with floor, volume, market cap, listed count, and holders. A collection with no floor shows a dash instead of a zero."
  caption="Collections, image first. A collection nobody has listed shows a dash where a floor would be."
/>

## What a collection actually is

Curated metadata that groups stamps. **Membership is not a chain fact.** It comes from
the collection index, so StampDEX names the source of collection data on the page. Two
indexes could disagree about what belongs in a set; neither would be lying about
Bitcoin.

The stamps themselves are chain facts. The grouping is not.

## The figures

| Figure | How it is computed | When it is unknown |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Floor | The lowest reported floor across the collection's stamps | When no stamp in it has a reported floor |
| Volume | Traded value over the window | When no source answered |
| Market cap | Floor times the edition count | When there is no floor |
| Listed market cap | Floor times the listed supply | When there is no floor |
| Listed | How many are for sale now | When the listing source did not answer |
| Holders | Distinct owning addresses | When the source did not answer |

An aggregate floor across collections is a minimum over the collections that reported a
positive floor, never a zero standing in for silence. An aggregate volume is never a
sum that quietly treats an unknown as nothing: the response carries a coverage count
saying how many collections reported.

## Reading a collection honestly

- A collection with no floor shows a dash, not a floor of 0. There is nothing for sale.
- A high market cap on a thin collection is floor times supply, and the floor may be a
  single listing. It is arithmetic, not liquidity.
- Trait and rarity data, where present, comes from the same third-party collection
  index as membership.

## How to verify

```bash
curl "https://stamp.api.bitcoinuniverse.io/api/v1/collections?includeMarketData=true&limit=3"
```

Per-collection market data is attached only when you ask for it, and it is cached
server side.

## Common failure states

| You see | Cause | Recovery |
| --- | --- | --- |
| A collection page with no stamps | The collection index did not answer | Retry. The stamps still exist on chain |
| A dash where you expected a floor | Nothing in the collection is listed | Nothing to fix. That is the honest answer |
| Thumbnails missing | The media source could not serve those bytes | The raw bytes are still on chain; the stamp page links the transaction |
